Any farmer who wants to aim for the stars in agriculture, knows the name Manitou. The versatile Manitou equipment exhibited this year at NAMPO Cape impressed the farmers once again. Johan van der Westhuizen, owner of Managri, a Manitou-accredited dealer, says delivering a service to the farmer is part and parcel of delivering a service to the farmer supplying the equipment required for making materials handling easier, safer and quicker.
“We are actively involved in agriculture,” says Johan. “The agricultural product range of Manitou SA includes forklifts, front-end loaders and tele, of which the smallest can pick up 2 tons 4,3 m high and can be implemented with ease at the homestead, on roads and in the lands. Manitou equipment is also suitable for work in barns and warehouses. Some of our bigger agricultural handlers can lift a full 4 tons to a height of 10 metres.”
One of the highest priorities for Manitou is their after-sales service. “To sell a machine might be the easiest thing to do. But, if you cannot service that machine and keep it working, you have a serious problem.” says Johan.
That is why Manitou is extending their dealer network in South Africa. There are not only dealers in the main centres such as Port Elizabeth, East London and Johannesburg, but also in smaller towns such as Rustenburg. What is more, says Johan, is that Manitou SA is involved in discussions with one of the biggest South African agricultural companies to extend their service points all over the country.
But what says the farmer about the Manitou products and service delivery?
George Barnard farms near Groblersdal wit potatoes, wheat and several types of maize and he has been a Manitou SA client since 2011. George says there is no better product than Manitou to make his life easier. “I was privileged to visit the Manitou factory in France and I could convince myself of the Manitou quality and after-sales service, says George.
George says he has received excellent service from Johan and Manitou in the eight years that he has been using Manitou and he has not yet received a single complaint. There are three Manitou units on George’s farm: the MLT-X 840-140 PS, die MT-X 625 and the MLT-X 625 75 H. All three do exactly what is expected of them and George recommends the Manitou products whole-heartedly.
• The MLT-X 840-140 PS telehandler lifts a load of four tons to a height of 7,5 metres. It is powered by a 102 kW John Deere engine and has a top speed of 40 km per hour. With a width of less than 2,4 metres, this powerful machine is narrow enough to move easily in the limited corridors of a warehouse.
• The MT-X 625 is a smaller version and its proven Kubota engine delivers 55 kW. However, this telehandler with its forklift adaptor has proved itself by lifting a load of 2,5 tons to a height of 5,85 metres. Furthermore it is a four wheel drive unit which makes it an excellent application in rough terrain.
• The MLT-X 625 75 H is a telehandler delivering the same engine power as the MT-X 625, the difference between the two being in the attachment used on the front of the machine’s beam, bigger tyres and speed. There are 164 different attachments such as bale grabbers, personnel lifts, mass bag grabbers and many more to select from. All this changes Manitou machines into versatile tools.
