One could see it from far away – the dark grey and bright orange Algar livestock handling equipment displayed at NAMPO 2019. Algar is a well-known name in the livestock industry for stalwart, strong, affordable and efficient equipment for the safe handling of your animals. The Algar equipment range helps you save time and expensive labour costs.
The Algar stand at NAMPO 2019 was a beehive of interested show visitors. Livestock farmers already know Hannes en Carin Nortjé personally – so, being farmers, they had to shake hands and hug.
Hannes and Carin are the owners of Algar and do the research and design of their products themselves. Hannes is a cattle and crop farmer and he falls back on all his knowledge from personal experience in cattle handling to design their products unique and original – exactly how the farmer and his animals would want it.
They first test the equipment on their own farm, which enables them to provide buyers and users with exact information on how to use the products. The products are manufactured from square and rectangular tubing with a wall thickness of 3 mm.
Some of the range of Algar equipment which make the life of the farmer so much easier, are the following:
Sheep weighing, scanning, clamping, classing crush
The name says it all – the equipment can do everything. The sheep walk into the pen and is then clamped. The farmer can open the gate and scan a ewe to see if she is in lamb, or the sheep can be weighed and classed.
Three-way sorting and classing gate for sheep
This sorting and classing gate can be placed flush to the farmer’s crush. The sheep walk into it and can then be divided into different groups by merely swinging the gate.
Two-way cattle sorting gate with treatment gates
This sorting gate is attached to the cattle crush. The sorting gate is fitted with an easy-gliding movement with an initial gate that shuts/locks the crush. This model also has access gates that allow access to the animal while it is penned in the head/neck clamp. The cattle are sorted and can leave to the front, left or right by manoeuvring the sliding gate.
Loading/off-loading ramp for sheep
This is a static loading ramp to service double-decker sheep trucks on a farm. It can be used for loading, as well as off-loading, and has special adjustable gates at the top and bottom.
